On August 12, 1968, in Lafayette, Louisiana, the late Lawrence Jr. and Hazel Pickney Reed welcomed their first son, David, the third of five children born to their union. He spent his early years in Louisiana surrounded by a large, close-knit family. In 1979, Hazel made the bold decision to relocate her family to Beaumont, Texas, seeking better opportunities and a fresh start. He attended French High School and was proud to be part of the Class of 1986.

David was a simple, easygoing man often misunderstood but always guided by good intentions. He wasn’t afraid of hard work and gave his all in everything he did. Providing for his loved ones meant the world to him, and he took great pride in making sure those he cared for were looked after.

He found joy in life’s simple pleasures, fishing trips, family gatherings, loud laughter, and playful fussing with friends and loved ones. He especially loved traveling back home to Louisiana to attend family events. Those were the moments when David was at his best surrounded by love, laughter, and connection.

To those who didn’t know him well, David might have seemed tough or even stern, but beneath that exterior was a heart as big as Texas and a dry, unforgettable sense of humor. Once you spent time with him, you quickly saw his warmth, loyalty, and humility the true measure of the man he was. On February 26, 2007, David married Stephanie Grant, and the rest was history.

On September 27, 2025, David cast his fishing rod of life for the final time. He laid down his cross to receive his crown, for God knew his name. Now, he walks the streets of gold free from illness, sorrow, and earthly cares. Awaiting him at Heaven’s gates are his father, grandparents, infant children David Jr. and Dashia Reed, and his baby brother Anthony Reed. But nothing will compare to the joy of his reunion with his beloved mother Hazel, and his beautiful daughter Dominique, whose passing in 2014 left a lasting ache in his heart. Can you imagine that moment when she runs to him, shouting, “Daddy!”? What a reunion it will be and proof that Heaven is truly a beautiful place.

David will forever be remembered as a man of few words but deep love, a protective father, devoted husband, loyal brother, cool uncle, proud grandfather, caring nephew, and faithful friend.

While his passing leaves a void that words cannot fill, his legacy of love, strength, and family pride will live on through his devoted wife, Stephanie, who was his ROCK; his children Kimberly Robinson, Megan Reed, Hailey Reed, Justice Reed, and Jalen Reed; his bonus children Artis, Shondre, De’Vonte, Ke’Vaun, and Quincy; and his cherished grandchildren Levi, Zariah, Amir, Emir, Elijah, and Ava. He also leaves behind his loving sisters Jackie (Jeffery) Thomas, Lisa (Gilbert) Anderson, and Cynthia Buxie; his aunts: Anna Noel, Mary Horne and Mary Petry; his uncle Joseph Ward; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, his United in Kingdom Works Ministries family, coworkers, and lifelong friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
