A Liberty County jury in the 75th District Court on Oct. 30, 2025, sentenced Henry Lloyd Gates Jr. to 65 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and assessed a $100,000 fine following his conviction for Manufacture and Delivery of a Controlled Substance (methamphetamine) in an amount between 200 and 400 grams.
Gates, a habitual offender with two prior felony drug convictions, was arrested in 2023 following an investigation and traffic stop conducted by the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Unit. Deputies located approximately 311 grams of methamphetamine in Gates’ vehicle during the stop.
District Attorney Jennifer Bergman praised the coordinated efforts of the Sheriff’s Office, saying, “This jury made sure this drug dealer won’t have the chance to continue poisoning our community. I’m incredibly proud of the outstanding work of our interdiction deputies and grateful to the citizens of Liberty County for holding him accountable.”
The Liberty County District Attorney’s Office extended its appreciation to Deputies Randy Johnson, Danielle Barry, Bryant Kutra and Jesse Slaughter of the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office for their excellent work in the case, and to the jury for their service and commitment to justice.
