First Methodist Church Splendora, 26117 FM 2090 East, is bringing back a longtime holiday tradition — a live nativity scene that church organizers describe as their gift to the community.

The event will take place for one night only, beginning at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7, outside the church, which is located across from Splendora City Hall.

Angel Van Ostrand, a spokesperson for the church, said the live nativity is meant to highlight what Christmas is truly about.

“We are celebrating the true meaning of Christmas,” she said.

This year’s presentation will feature a camel, a donkey, and a mixture of goats and sheep to help bring to life the story of Christ’s humble birth in a stable in Bethlehem. In addition to the live reenactment of the Christmas story, visitors can enjoy Christmas carols and refreshments, with gift bags available for children who attend.

The event is free to the public and open to all ages. Attendees are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and dress for outdoor weather. The celebration will take place weather permitting.
