The Liberty County District Attorney’s Office is inviting the community to take part in its fifth annual Tree of Angels program beginning Monday, Dec. 1, 2025. The event provides families, survivors and supporters with an opportunity to honor victims of violent crimes and to recognize veterans, active-duty military members and first responders during the holiday season.

Beginning Dec. 1, the public is encouraged to bring an ornament to hang on the Angel Tree in memory of a loved one or in support of those who have served the community. Participants may include the name of the person they are honoring on the ornament if they choose. The DA’s Office notes that the gesture is meant to provide a space for reflection, remembrance and healing during a time of year that can be especially difficult for those who have experienced loss.

The Angel Tree will be displayed on the first floor of the Liberty County Courthouse, located at 1923 Sam Houston St. in Liberty. Ornaments may be placed on the tree during regular business hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

As part of the annual tradition, the District Attorney’s Office will host a cookie reception on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2025, from 1 to 3 p.m. The reception is open to the public, and community members are encouraged to attend, share fellowship and support one another.

Organizers also wish to remind participants that ornaments will not be returned once they are placed on the tree. Each ornament becomes part of the annual display and will be used again in future years. With that in mind, attendees are encouraged to bring an ornament that is meaningful but not of irreplaceable sentimental value.
