Liberty County SRT assists ATF with arrest in Cleveland

The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team assisted federal agents early Friday morning, Nov. 21, with the execution of a search warrant at a residence in the 9500 block of CR 370 (East River Road) in Cleveland. Deputies arrived at the home at approximately 6 a.m.

According to Liberty County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Billy Knox, the team was activated at the request of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The resident of the home, Jason Lee Reeves, 31, was wanted on an ATF warrant.

Knox said he did not have details regarding the nature of that federal warrant.

While deputies and federal agents were at the property, they learned that Reeves also had three outstanding Liberty County warrants issued in late October by the Liberty County Fire Marshal’s Office. Those charges include Illegal Dumping over 200 cubic feet, Reckless Emission of Air Contaminant, and Unlawful Disposal of a Lead Acid Battery.

Fire Marshal Nathan Green said the illegal dumping and reckless emission charges are felonies, while the unlawful disposal of a lead acid battery is a Class A misdemeanor.

Reeves was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Liberty County Jail. Bond information was not available as of press time.
