Rob Freyer, the assistant district attorney for San Jacinto County, is seeking the 258th State District Court bench, which serves San Jacinto, Trinity, and Polk counties.
Freyer earned his bachelor’s degree from Texas Christian University in 1992, majoring in history and Spanish. After college, he completed a master of science degree in criminal justice administration at Florida International University, graduating with a 3.98 grade point average. Two weeks after completing that program, he began law school at South Texas College of Law and graduated in December 1996. He has practiced law since that time.
While in law school, Freyer spent one summer working with the FBI in Washington, D.C., but ultimately chose a career in prosecution. He began interning with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office during law school and joined the office as a prosecutor after graduating. He remained there for 12 years, handling a heavy trial docket.
Over the course of his career, Freyer has handled hundreds of jury trials involving serious felony offenses, including capital murder, crimes against children, aggravated robbery, and narcotics cases. He has also worked thousands of criminal cases across eight Texas counties.
At the end of 2008, Freyer joined the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office under then-District Attorney Brett Ligon, where he worked until March 2022. He then joined the San Jacinto County District Attorney’s Office, where he currently serves as an assistant district attorney.
In addition to his prosecutorial work, Freyer has served as a mentor to numerous attorneys throughout his career, helping them prepare for trial, develop case strategy, and strengthen their courtroom presentation.
Freyer is fluent in Spanish, a skill he said allows him to better communicate with and serve the diverse communities within the judicial district.
When asked about his judicial philosophy, Freyer described himself as conservative and deliberate.
“In my career as a prosecutor, I have put quite a premium on being accessible, transparent, fair, honest and passionate about justice,” he said. “Crime victims deserve that. Crime victims are oftentimes lost in the mix of the criminal justice system where everybody focuses on the rights of the defendant, and the defendant does have rights. This country has a history of providing a more fair judicial system for defendants than any other country in the world, and we have the track records to prove it. If people need to be held accountable, then they should be held accountable, assuming that the proof is there to convict them.”
Freyer said he believes improvements can be made in how the 258th State District Court operates, particularly when it comes to efficiency and case management.
“Efficiency is lacking in that court right now,” he said. “I think everyone also should be treated with respect and courtesy. I think that judges ought not to reset cases over and over. There is no justice in that for anyone involved. There’s no reason to have a five-year-old sexual assault of a child case lingering for four or five years, or a divorce case that has gone on that long. There’s no reason for that.”
Since moving to San Jacinto County, Freyer said he has come to appreciate the people of East Texas and the three-county area served by the court.
“I have adopted this part of the state as my home and adopted these people that I have met through law enforcement, crime victims, my coworkers, defense attorneys and everyone that I have met on the campaign trail,” he said. “I’ve come to love and respect the three-county area that is represented by the 258th State District Court. They deserve better than what they are currently getting in that court.”
Freyer is running in the Republican primary on March 3. He is married to Dr. Mariana Nicoleta Coconu Freyer, a dentist in Montgomery County, and they have a 7-year-old daughter. He said his wife’s support has been essential to his decision to seek the bench.
“Other than having faith in God, there is nothing healthier in life than having a good, healthy marriage,” he said. “There is no way I could do this without her.”

This guy is bad news. Arrested for DWI, Removed from a criminal case for violating someone’s Constitutional rights, he has zero experience in civil, family, tax or property law.
Its questionable whether he is even qualified to run as he lives and has lived continuously in Montgomery County.
Why Bluebonnet News is stuck up this guy’s backside is beyond me. It really hurts the credibility of this blogger.
But dont take my word for any of this. Do your homework, his application for employment in Montgomery County is public record. The refusal from the Gibson case is public record.
Oh and btw, he dismisses majority of his cases so criminals walk the streets.
Interesting. He has been my neighbor in pointblank for the past 4+ years. What is is his continuous address in Montgomery?
Well we know who this guy is not voting for. Merry Election season.
This is the same guy who told my in-laws and child victim that the guy who raced my sister-in-law is an opportunist who only rapes little girls when he is drunk. Then proceeded to try engaging in a conversation about fishing on the Sabine River.
He is a POS and a JOKE.
Raped*
I have a question. If Freyer is running for judge in the 258th District Court, shouldn’t he live in the district? CAD records in San Jacinto, Polk and Trinity counties (which encompass the 258th district) have no property records for him. Under his wife’s name, there is a home that has a homestead exemption in Montgomery County (Spring). Shouldn’t he at least live in the county? His opponent the incumbent Travis Kitchens lives within the 258th. Furthermore, I recently attended the Christmas parade in Coldspring, where Fryer currently works as an ADA. I saw Judge Kitchens was there with all the other candidates and fielded a float in the parade. Rob Freyer was a no show. These are things that voters notice!!!
I have sat in court and watched the goings on. Someone talk about Judge KItchens and how his open revolving door against drug users has affected some locals. It took numerous times for him to put one San Jacinto resident who stood on a fence yelling he was gonna cut an elderly ladies throat. We need to stay open and try not to paint one candidate as totally wholesome. I think A.D.A Freyer is good solid alternative. As is the case in all of the candidates. I understand a persons point of few but San Jacinto needs some of the cemented incumbents to slide over for awhile, kind like the Sheriff Election, now look at San Jacinto Co. We have great things in store for us, lets make some changes.
He’s been my neighbor in pointblank the last 4+ years
He let a child rapist with 5 victims plea out . No thank you..and hey..since he had his dwi arrest expunged, you think he has other hidden items in his past?
