Galia Aline Stubblefield-Lewis

Galia Aline Stubblefield-Lewis passed away Dec. 21, 2025. She was born September 2, 1933, to John “Matt” Thomas, Sr. and Rachel Attaway.

Galia’s greatest joy was found in the embrace of her family—whether gathered at lively reunions, sharing laughter during game nights, or spending peaceful afternoons tending her garden. Her love for her grandchildren knew no bounds; each one was a treasured gift she held close to her heart. She proudly began a legacy of four generations of softball players, cheering them on with unwavering pride as they carried forward a tradition she started. A devoted Houston Astros fan, Galia’s loyalty, joy, and spirited enthusiasm reflected the same steadfast love she gave so freely to her family. Her legacy of faith, family, and love will live on through all who were blessed to know her.

Galia is lovingly survived by her children, Sheila Weaver and husband Jim Weaver of Quitman, Arkansas; Amy Rodriguez of Livingston, Texas; George Stubblefield and wife Sharon of Jennings, Oklahoma; and Barbara Barrera of Friendswood, Texas. She is also survived by her stepchildren, Christopher D. Lewis and wife Chelsea of Clinton, Mississippi; Perry Lewis and wife Yra of Starkville, Mississippi; and Bobbi Gerber of Mississippi. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Dustin Weaver, Jeromy Weaver, Gaila Holt, Amanda Goodwater, Luis Rodriguez, Michael Rodriguez, Meloney Moore, David Stubblefield, Sarah Stubblefield, George Tyler Stubblefield, Priscilla Barrera, Felicia Ramirez, Sarina Barrera, and Michelle Barrera. She is further survived by her step-grandchildren, Kara Lewis, Cymon Lewis, Chip Lewis, Destiny Lewis, Paige Lewis, and Lilliana Hazel Budis. Altogether, she was blessed with 20 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart. Additional survivors include her sister-in-law and lifelong friend Willie Lewis, and sister-in-law Joanne Thomas.

Lewis (married 2002–2020); her son, Jimmy George Stubblefield; granddaughters, Honey Nichole Hall and Hope Aline Rodriguez; great-granddaughter, Angel Isabella McDaniel; great-grandson, Dakota Holt; her parents, John “Matt” Thomas, Sr. and Rachel Attaway; her brothers, John Thomas, Lee Thomas, and Valton Thomas; and her sisters, Mozelle Jackson and Maxine Pedersen, along with several cherished nieces and nephews.
