Eastbound traffic on U.S. 90 in Dayton will shift onto newly constructed detour lanes beginning Monday, Feb. 2, 2026, as work continues on the U.S. 90/Union Pacific Railroad overpass project.
According to project information from the Texas Department of Transportation, the new eastbound detour lanes are located north of the existing roadway and will allow crews to continue construction on the railroad overpass. The traffic shift is expected to change how drivers move through the area, particularly near Rolke Road and Sunset Heights Avenue.
As shown on the attached map, eastbound drivers approaching CR 493, also known as Rolke Road, will be guided by signage and concrete barriers onto the new detour lanes. The eastbound detour will run directly adjacent to the existing westbound detour lanes, with a concrete barrier separating the two directions of travel.
Access to businesses and residences along U.S. 90 within the construction limits will remain available. However, vehicles exiting those locations will continue to be restricted to right-turn-only movements, consistent with current traffic controls.
Eastbound drivers needing access to businesses and residences in the construction zone will be required to exit the eastbound detour at Sunset Heights Avenue. The map highlights this exit point and shows how drivers can re-enter local access roads to reach destinations such as nearby businesses and private residences.
The map also shows that the eastbound local access road will end just before the railroad tracks. At that point, traffic will be funneled back onto the eastbound detour lanes. Drivers will be required to yield when merging back into through traffic.
Several no-left-turn locations and road closures are marked on the map to help reduce conflict points and improve safety through the work zone. Motorists are encouraged to pay close attention to posted signs and pavement markings while navigating the new traffic pattern.
Project officials say the traffic shift is a necessary step to keep the U.S. 90 corridor moving while construction continues on the overpass spanning the Union Pacific Railroad tracks.
Drivers traveling through Dayton are advised to allow extra time, remain alert, and follow all posted traffic control devices while the new traffic pattern is in place.

Txdot wastes so much money building temp roads then remove them so u wasted 10 million in tax payer money why make 90 a single lane leave early for work stop wasting money txdot liberty
The project has been complicated from the start. A far more easier way forward would have been to gain better relationships with gas station owners to allow passthroughs.
