Mary “Kathy” Kathleen Sowell

Mary “Kathy” Kathleen Sowell, age 82, passed away on Jan. 29, 2026. She was born on Nov. 1, 1943, in Springfield, Louisiana, to Rufus Quincy “R.Q.” Felder and Alice Smiley Felder.

Kathy was a longtime resident of Dayton, Texas, where she lived for 27 years. She was a beloved member of the Liberty Opry where her love of music and people shined brightly with friends who became more like family. Kathy enjoyed bowling, reading books, and faithfully attending sporting events and school functions for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who lovingly called her “Nanny.”

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rufus “R.Q.” Quincy Felder and Alice Smiley Felder; her brother, John Allen Felder; her sister, Irma Secrest; and her great-grandson, baby “Jr.” Sowell.

Kathy is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, Harold “Ray” Sowell; her sons, Jeffrey Sowell of Dayton, and Monte Sowell and wife Tina of Dayton; her sister-in-law, Priscilla Roy of Greenville, Texas; her grandchildren, Bradley Sowell and wife Kenzie of Dayton, Texas, and Brandon Sowell and wife Kayla of Dayton; her great-grandchildren, Joseph, Brylan, Brynleigh, and baby Kenleigh on the way. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends.

Kathy will be remembered for her loving heart, her unwavering support of her family, and the joy she brought to all who knew her.
