John Camden “Cam” “Cammy” Gilliland II, 70, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
A lifelong resident of Liberty, Texas, Cam was more than a familiar face around town — he was part of the heart of Liberty itself. Some people come into this world and leave a mark so deep that an entire community feels the loss when they’re gone. Cam was one of those people.
Cam was born to William Morgan Gilliland Sr. and Rena Mai Butler Gilliland on June 23, 1955. He was a graduate of Liberty High School and attended Tyler Jr College and was owner/operator of Gilliland A/C & Heating.
He was a lover of animals, family gatherings, and the simple moments in life that often become the memories we hold onto forever. His presence brought comfort, joy, and warmth to countless people throughout the years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, William Morgan Gilliland Jr. “Sonny,” and sister-in-law, Lynda Gilliland; his sister, Jeanine Brocco, and brother-in-law, William “Bill” Brocco; and his brother, John Camden Gilliland “Johnny.”
He is survived by his loving wife, of 50 years, Marilyn Zetik Gilliland; his son, John Christopher Gilliland and wife Megan; his daughter, Laura Gilliland Sanders; his beloved granddaughters, Keira, Haylee, and Fynlee Sanders; brothers-in-law, Ronnie Zetik and wife Kathy; Johnny Zetik; sister-in-law, Connie Jordan and husband Frank. Along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.
The loss of Cam leaves a space that can never truly be filled. It is hard to imagine Liberty without seeing his smile, hearing his laughter, or feeling the kindness he carried so naturally everywhere he went. But the love he gave, the memories he created, and the example he set will live on in the family he adored and the community he helped shape for so many years.
He was deeply loved, and he will be deeply missed.
