Chubby Morris

Chubby Morris passed peacefully in his sleep during the early morning hours of Saturday, May 16, 2026.

Chubby was a lifelong resident of Cleveland, Texas, a place he dearly loved and proudly called home throughout his life. He graduated from Cleveland High School in 1957 and went on to live a life defined by hard work, faith, devotion to family, and the cowboy spirit he carried so naturally.

Known by many as a true “Cowboy’s Cowboy,” Chubby began his adult working life in the oil fields of South and East Texas, where he developed the strong work ethic and rugged character that would define him for the rest of his life. He later became a proud member of Pipe Fitters Local #211, from which he retired in 1999 after many years of dedicated service.

Chubby was married to the love of his life, Margaret Elizabeth Blagg Morris, for more than 66 wonderful years. Together they built a life centered on love, faith, family, and enduring commitment.

An avid hunter and fisherman, Chubby found great joy in the outdoors. He especially loved his horse, Rusty, and his faithful dog, Chico, who were cherished companions through the years. Whether working, riding, hunting, or simply sharing stories with friends and family, Chubby lived life with authenticity, strength, and heart.

Faith was the foundation of Chubby’s life. He was a lifelong member of First Pentecostal Church of Cleveland, Texas, now known as The Sanctuary, where he faithfully worshiped and remained deeply connected to his church family throughout the years.

Chubby was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret Elizabeth Blagg Morris; his parents, Jack and Stacia Morris; and his brother, Rev. Max Morris.

He is survived by his two daughters, Deborah Renee Morris and Theresa Marvelle Morris Manuel and husband Greg; his brother, Bill Morris and wife Renee; and his cherished grandchildren: Brett Graham and wife Charly, Brooke Graham Enoch and husband Ben, Gregory Manuel II, Tyler Manuel, and Lyndsey Manuel Schryver and husband Grant.

Chubby was also blessed with great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly: Eisley Manuel, Elynn Manuel, Elliott Enoch, Mack Enoch, Maverick Graham, and Maliki Graham, Jude Schryver, Rory Schryver, and Barrett Enoch.

Chubby is survived by chosen family of, Buddy and Carolyn Johnson, Michael and Tresha Johnson, Kevin and Nicole Johnson, their children and grandchildren. Chubby considered Michael and Kevin the sons he never had. He is also survived by a host of nephews, nieces, chosen family, and dear friends whose lives were forever touched by his kindness, wisdom, and unforgettable spirit.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his legacy of faith, loyalty, hard work, and love for family will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
