The Liberty Lady Panthers capped off another remarkable season Friday, May 29, by capturing the UIL Class 4A Division II State Championship with a commanding 12-0 victory over Brock at Red & Charline McCombs Field.
The title is the fourth state softball championship in program history and adds another chapter to one of the most successful programs in Texas high school softball.
Liberty wasted little time taking control of the championship game and never looked back. The Lady Panthers pounded out 17 hits and continued to build on their lead throughout the afternoon before securing the victory by run rule in the sixth inning.
Bayleigh Taylor delivered a championship performance both in the circle and at the plate. Taylor threw a complete-game two-hit shutout, allowing only a bunt single and a double while striking out seven batters. For her efforts, she was named the game’s Most Valuable Player.
Taylor also helped power Liberty’s offense, driving in five runs.
The Lady Panthers received offensive contributions throughout the lineup. Kylee Bishop collected three hits and drove in three runs, while Kinley Brashier added three hits and two RBIs. Adryan Duff drove in two runs and scored once, and Abbie Key added an RBI.
Liberty finished the season with a 39-6 record and punctuated its year with one of its most dominant performances, overwhelming Brock from start to finish on the state’s biggest stage.
When the final out was recorded, players rushed onto the field to celebrate a championship that reflected months of hard work, dedication and perseverance.
For the seniors, it marked the end of an unforgettable journey. For the program, it was another state championship trophy headed back to Liberty.
