
The Texas Department of Agriculture has recognized Splendora ISD’s Child Nutrition Department with the 2026 USDA Foods Challenge Strategic Menu Planning and Superior Meal Service Award.
The award recognizes school nutrition programs that excel in menu planning, the effective use of USDA Foods and the delivery of nutritious meals to students. It also highlights districts that successfully meet federal nutrition standards while providing meals that appeal to students.
Charles Rawls, director of child nutrition for Splendora ISD, said the recognition reflects the department’s commitment to serving students high-quality meals each day.
“I am very pleased to see our district recognized and to receive this award,” said Charles Rawls, Director of Child Nutrition. “Meeting USDA nutrition guidelines while also meeting the expectations of our students can sometimes be challenging. However, we remain committed to providing meals that students enjoy while delivering the very best possible foodservice customer experience. It is rewarding to have the Texas Department of Agriculture acknowledge those efforts.”
The Texas Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Agriculture encourage school districts to strengthen child nutrition programs by offering healthy meal options and maintaining high standards of customer service.
The award recognizes the work of Splendora ISD’s Child Nutrition Department in providing students with nutritious meals while creating a positive dining experience.
