Two Houston men were taken into custody early Wednesday morning, June 3, following a police pursuit that began after officers responded to a burglary alarm at a Cleveland business.
According to Cleveland Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 2 a.m. to an alarm call at Lonestar Outdoor Power Equipment, located at 301 N. Washington Ave.
Upon arrival, Officer Johnson reportedly observed a black male suspect fleeing on foot from the business. At the same time, a vehicle was seen speeding away from the rear of the building. Officer Johnson initiated a pursuit of the vehicle.
The pursuit traveled through the southwest area of Cleveland near Dunnam Street and Love Street before the suspect vehicle entered U.S. 59. Police said the vehicle traveled southbound in the northbound lanes before crashing near South Travis Avenue and the Loop 573/Washington Avenue exit, near the tire disposal site.
Following the crash, two suspects exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Officers Johnson, Mercado and Medina pursued and apprehended both individuals.
Police recovered several power tools inside the suspects’ vehicle that investigators believe were stolen from Lonestar Outdoor Power Equipment.
The two suspects were transported to the Cleveland Police Department and detained. The investigation remains ongoing.
Investigators believe a second vehicle, described as a small minivan, may have been involved in the burglary.
