Cleveland ISD announces new principal appointments for 2026-2027 school year

Cleveland ISD is pleased to announce the appointment of three accomplished educational leaders who will serve as campus principals for the 2026-2027 school year. These appointments reflect the district’s continued commitment to academic excellence, student success, and strong school-community partnerships.

The new principal appointments include:

Sheryl Turner, Principal, Northside Elementary School

Mrs. Sheryl Turner brings more than 30 years of experience in public education, having served students and educators in North Forest ISD, Aldine ISD, and Houston ISD. Throughout her career, she has held a variety of teaching and leadership positions, earning a reputation for fostering student achievement, supporting teachers, and cultivating positive school cultures.

Mrs. Turner is passionate about creating environments where students thrive academically and socially while building strong partnerships among staff, families, and the community. Her leadership philosophy centers on collaboration, high expectations, and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to succeed.

Susana Figueroa, Principal, Santa Fe Middle School

Mrs. Susana Figueroa joins Cleveland ISD with more than 25 years of educational experience. Her distinguished career includes service as a classroom teacher, dyslexia specialist, assistant principal, and principal. Most recently, she served as Assistant Principal at Lyons Elementary School in Houston ISD.

Known for her student-centered leadership style and commitment to instructional excellence, Mrs. Figueroa believes in empowering students through rigorous academics, meaningful relationships, and strong family engagement. Her experience and dedication will help continue the tradition of excellence at Santa Fe Middle School.

Mark Rodriguez, Principal, Cleveland Middle School

Mr. Mark Rodriguez is a lifelong Cleveland resident, a Cleveland ISD graduate, and a dedicated educational leader who has devoted his entire 15-year career to serving Cleveland ISD students and families. Throughout his tenure, he has held multiple leadership roles within the district, most recently serving as Principal of Douglas Learning Academy.

Mr. Rodriguez is recognized for his commitment to student achievement, positive school culture, and collaborative leadership. As a product of Cleveland ISD, a husband of a Cleveland ISD educator, and a parent of Cleveland ISD students, he brings a unique perspective and a deep connection to the community he serves.

Their leadership will play a critical role in advancing our mission and supporting student success across our district.”
