Plum Grove Police Chief Frank Longoria has announced his retirement after more than 34 years in law enforcement. His retirement will take effect July 31, 2026.

Longoria shared the news in a letter to the mayor and members of the City Council, saying the decision came after careful consideration and with a heavy heart.

Over the course of his law enforcement career, Longoria served with several agencies throughout the region. He began his career with the Ames Police Department in March 1992 before joining the Dayton Police Department later that year, where he served until 2001. He then spent nearly six years with the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office before joining the Liberty Police Department in 2007. He remained with Liberty PD until January 2019.

After leaving Liberty PD, Longoria served as a reserve officer with the Liberty County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office, worked a temporary assignment with the Kountze Police Department, and later served with the Liberty County Precinct 6 Constable’s Office. In October 2021, he joined the Plum Grove Police Department, where he has served as chief.

In his retirement letter, Longoria reflected on a career dedicated to public service.

“For more than three decades, I have had the honor and privilege of serving alongside some of the most dedicated law enforcement officers, municipal staff, elected officials, and community members imaginable,” he wrote.

Longoria said he always viewed the people he served as more than just citizens, describing them as friends, neighbors and extended family. He said his goal throughout his career was to treat everyone with respect, dignity, fairness and compassion.

He also spoke about the importance of mentoring younger officers. Much of his career was spent training, guiding and developing future law enforcement professionals, which he described as one of the most rewarding aspects of his work.

Longoria said he was grateful for the opportunity to lead the Plum Grove Police Department and proud of what the department accomplished during his tenure as chief. He credited those accomplishments to the officers who serve the city, as well as the support of city leaders and the community.

Longoria said ongoing health issues played a role in his decision to retire. After more than three decades of serving others, he said it is time to focus on his health while ensuring the department can continue operating without interruption.

Before stepping down, Longoria said he plans to work closely with city officials to help ensure a smooth leadership transition.

Longoria concluded his letter by thanking the mayor, City Council, city staff and residents of Plum Grove for their trust and support.

“It has been a privilege and honor to serve the citizens of Plum Grove,” he wrote.
