Davis named lone finalist for Shepherd ISD

Dr. Todd Davis

The Shepherd ISD Board of Trustees has named Dr. Todd Davis the lone finalist for superintendent of schools.

According to a statement from the District, after considering numerous applicants, the Board voted 7-0 to name Davis as the lone finalist. By state law, the Board may not hire the new superintendent for at least 21 days following the public notice given through the Board’s motion. Davis will succeed Dr. Jason Hewitt, who is retiring after six years of leadership in Shepherd ISD.

According to the District, Davis brings more than 30 years of experience in public education, with a focus on improving teaching and learning for all students. He most recently served as chief academic officer in Aldine ISD, “where he was known for helping teams turn vision into practice in ways that support teachers and improve student outcomes.”

The district stated that Davis’ work in Aldine led to a statewide role supporting districts in adopting high-quality classroom instructional materials and strengthening systemwide support for teachers.

“Much of that work was performed in small rural school districts. According to the statement, that experience inspired Davis to seek leadership of a district where teaching and learning is personal and where every student is known by name,” the statement reads.

“The most effective way to improve outcomes for students is to invest in teachers and ensure every student graduates with choices and opportunities for their future,” Davis said.

According to Shepherd ISD, Davis and his wife, Yvonne, a math teacher, have been married for 25 years and have two children, Isabella, 22, and Nathan, 19, both of whom are currently attending college.

The District stated that Davis is a lifelong Texas sports fan and, while growing up in Minnesota, collected posters of Earl Campbell, Nolan Ryan and other successful Houston athletes.

According to Shepherd ISD, Davis is excited about the prospect of serving as superintendent once the 21-day waiting period concludes and is spending the interim learning all he can about becoming a Shepherd Pirate.
