Mary Ann Johnson was called to her eternal reward on July 1, 2026, at the age of 82, according to God’s perfect timing and with family by her side.
Born on Dec. 7, 1943, to Monroe and Wilda LeNormand, Mary Ann was a graduate of Hardin High School and the valedictorian of her class. In 1965, she married Willie Ray Johnson, Sr., and together they raised a blended family of five children. Mary Ann was a gifted pianist and, in 2020, was honored by Mt. Calvary Baptist Church for 65 years of devoted service. She served faithfully as pianist, church secretary, Sunday School teacher, and other roles throughout the years. Additionally, she was a longtime bookkeeper for The Grand Leader department store and later worked as office manager for Dr. Bassam Hamid and his wife, Montaha Jaber.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willie Ray; her brother, M.C. LeNormand; and her bonus son, Ray Johnson.
She is survived by her daughters, Melissa Richards of Hardin and Michele Johnson of Houston; her bonus children, Terry Johnson and his wife, Lella, of Anahuac; Becky Adams and her husband, Ralph, of Cypress; her daughter-in-law, Katrina Johnson of Seguin, sister-in-law, Audra LeNormand of Liberty, lifelong friend, Carolyn Wakefield, and great-grandson Hagen Richards—fondly known as “her person.” Mary Ann was a proud grandmother to nine grandchildren: Zane Johnson and his wife, Lindsey; Andy Richards and his wife, Sandra; Courtney Guidry; Cleary Johnson; Ashley Miller and her husband, Dustin; Allison Moore and her husband, David; Joss Johnson; Nicholas Johnson; and Abigail Reece and her husband, Ryan. She was also blessed with ten great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held on July 19 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Marysee, Texas, with visitation and fellowship prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 2988 TX-105 East, Liberty, TX 77575, in her memory.
