Montgomery County deputies recover stolen property, bank robbery suspect in New Caney

Montgomery County Precinct 4 deputies recovered stolen property and arrested a man wanted on multiple felony warrants, including a federal bank robbery warrant, during an investigation Tuesday, July 7.

Deputies responded to the 18000 block of Eaton Mill Drive after a victim reported that items stolen from his vehicle during a Harris County burglary were being tracked to the area. According to the victim, an iPad taken during the burglary was showing its location at a home on Eaton Mill Drive.

When deputies arrived, they made contact with a resident and noticed a vehicle parked on the property. A review of Flock camera data showed the vehicle had been in the area of the Harris County burglary around the time it occurred.

The information helped investigators continue tracking the stolen property. Deputies recovered the victim’s iPad from the vehicle, along with several stolen tools believed to belong to the victim and possibly others.

During the investigation, deputies reportedly also encountered a man who arrived at the residence and initially gave a false name. He was later identified as Michael Austin.

Austin was found to have multiple active warrants, including a federal bank robbery warrant out of Illinois, a felony parole warrant and a felony family violence warrant from Harris County. He was taken into custody without incident.

Montgomery County Precinct 4 is continuing to work with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office as the investigation remains active.

“This is a great example of how technology and investigations work together to protect our community,” said Constable Kenneth “Rowdy” Hayden. “Flock cameras helped give deputies important information.”

  1. Flock cameras may have helped in the investigation and led officers to the stolen property.
In my honest opinion Flock cameras are a direct invasion of private citizens right to privacy. If they track you 24/7 then they are intrusive into people’s lives and their privacy.

  2. Thank you to all agencies that worked together to get another criminal off our streets. Keep up the great work. And please stay safe out there.
