Liberty County authorities are searching for an inmate who escaped from custody Saturday morning, July 18, after being transported to a Kingwood hospital for a medical emergency.
The subject is Yorlan Rafael Reyes, 31, who escaped from lawful custody at HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood at approximately 5:30 a.m.
Reyes, 31, is described as a Hispanic male standing approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing about 190 pounds. He was being held by the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office on a charge of unlawful disclosure or promotion of intimate visual material under Texas Penal Code § 21.16.
According to the sheriff’s office, Reyes was transported to the Liberty County Jail from Madison County on Friday, July 17, on an outstanding Liberty County felony warrant.
During the early morning hours of Saturday, Reyes experienced a medical emergency and was transported by ambulance to HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood for treatment. While at the hospital, he escaped from the lawful custody of a Liberty County Sheriff’s Office correctional officer and fled on foot.
Reyes was last seen wearing an orange Liberty County Jail-issued jumpsuit and orange jail-issued shoes.
The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division immediately responded alongside the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and has assumed the criminal investigation into the escape. Investigators have reviewed surveillance footage from the hospital and continue to pursue all available leads.
The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office is working with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Rangers to locate Reyes. Multiple Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office units remain in the area while investigators from all participating agencies continue using available resources to apprehend him as quickly and safely as possible.
Authorities said no additional information is being released at this time because the investigation remains active.
