The Liberty Municipal Library has been awarded a 2026 Texas Book Festival Library Grant, marking the first time the library has received the statewide award.
The $2,500 grant, presented through a partnership between the Texas Book Festival and the Texas Library Association, is one of only 70 grants awarded to libraries across Texas this year. The funding will be used to expand and strengthen the library’s collection of Spanish and bilingual books, making more reading materials available to families throughout the community.
Library staff members Maggie Varela, Maribel Martinez and Amber Ursprung worked together to secure the grant.
The expanded collection will include board books for the library’s youngest readers, as well as easy readers, juvenile, teen, young adult and adult titles. Both fiction and nonfiction books will be added to the collection, providing readers of all ages with a wider variety of materials in Spanish and bilingual formats.
The library will begin purchasing and processing the new books in the coming months. While it will take time for the titles to be added to the shelves, patrons are encouraged to visit regularly to discover new additions as they become available.
The Liberty Municipal Library is located at 1710 Sam Houston St. in Liberty inside the Geraldine D. Humphreys Cultural Center. Library hours are Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday from 1 to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
