A Cleveland woman has been charged with Aggravated Assault for a shooting incident that reportedly took place around noon on July 21, at a private property on CR 377 in Cleveland.
According to Capt. John Bennett, a spokesperson for the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, upon arrival at the property, deputies located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound to the thigh. The shooting occurred outside on the property. The victim was treated by emergency medical personnel and transported to a local hospital for further treatment.
Deputies and investigators spoke with multiple witnesses and secured a firearm believed to be connected to the incident. Investigators with the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division subsequently obtained and executed a search warrant at the property.
Based on statements and evidence obtained during the investigation, Cassandra Burgess, 40, was arrested and booked into the Liberty County Jail on a charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
The investigation remains active, and investigators are continuing to review evidence and determine the full circumstances surrounding the shooting. Additional information will be released when appropriate.
