Juvenile wounded, another in custody after shooting at Deerbrook Mall

One juvenile was wounded and another juvenile is in custody following a shooting Saturday evening inside Deerbrook Mall, according to Humble Police Chief Kris Battenfield.

The shooting occurred just before 6:38 p.m. Saturday, July 25, inside the popular shopping mall.

Battenfield said one juvenile suffered a gunshot wound and was transported to a hospital for medical treatment. He also said investigators believe an adult bystander was struck in the finger during the chaos that followed the shooting.

The chief said there is no ongoing threat to the public, and the mall has been secured. Deerbrook Mall remains closed while investigators process the scene.

Three Humble police officers who were already on duty inside the mall responded immediately to the incident, Battenfield said.

Investigators have taken one juvenile into custody in connection with the shooting. Battenfield said it remains unclear whether the two juveniles involved knew each other, and the investigation is ongoing.

Battenfield acknowledged that Deerbrook Mall is a popular gathering place for teenagers, particularly on weekends.

Authorities have not released the identities of those involved because they are juveniles.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Additional information is expected to be released as it becomes available.
