A teaching aide who worked at an ILTexas campus serving the Colony Ridge area pleaded guilty on Monday, July 27, and was sentenced Thursday, July 30, to a first-degree felony charge of Sexual Performance by a Child Under the Age of 14 and was sentenced to eight years deferred adjudication.
Carlos Barroso-Torrado, 21, entered the guilty plea before 75th State District Judge Michelle Merendino, who also ordered him to pay a $1,000 fine and register as a sex offender. He also was ordered to surrender every other weekend at the county jail until he serves 60 days of incarceration starting Aug. 14.
During Thursday’s hearing, details surrounding the case were revealed in open court.
According to information presented in the hearing, Barroso-Torrado was working as a teaching aide in an in-school suspension classroom at an ILTexas campus when he gave two teenage students permission to engage in sexual activity in the classroom he was supervising.
Another student in the classroom recorded the incident on video. Barroso-Torrado was seen in the video as the sex act was taking place. To law enforcement and in court, Barroso-Torrado admitted his guilt in the incident and pleaded guilty to the first-degree felony charge.
Barroso-Torrado also admitted bringing a vape device into the classroom and sharing it with students assigned to in-school suspension. He also admitted to having consumed large amounts of illicit drugs and dealing drugs in the past.
Following the sentencing, the Liberty County District Attorney’s Office expressed disappointment with the punishment imposed by the court.
“We send our children to school and entrust the adults who are at these schools to keep them safe and protect them. That did not happen in this case. We are extremely disappointed in the lenient sentence that was handed down by the judge. Everyone working at a public or private school, whether they are teachers, aides, custodians or administrators should be held to a higher standard because they are
responsible for our children,” said Liberty County District Attorney Jennifer Bergman. “A six-year deferred sentence is not a harsh punishment. I believe this is not the message we should be sending to people who are entrusted with the care of our children.”

OMG, I can hardly believe what I just read. He needs time in prison. This judge was wrong to be so lenient with this situation.
Wow this judge comes down hard on whites. I’m just saying. I’ve been following her since she was crowned judge.
I would love to know why speaking Chinese is so important? Other then they’re hope to take over the Communist America that Democrats seem to want very badly. I don’t get why a spy school for China is even allowed.
I know I’m just another nut spewing garbage that could or would ever happen. I guess those lost school years messed up more then anyone will ever admit.
