Ursula Weimer Tyler, better known to all that knew and loved her as “Oma” was born April 18, 1934, in Germany, to parents Maria Gabriel and Paul Hampel and peacefully entered Heaven’s Gates Aug. 10, 2026, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
A German native, Ursula moved to the states in 1961 after marrying the soldier that helped that move happen. Knowing very little English she used TV shows like Sesame Street to learn the language of her new home. She never liked handouts and worked hard for everything she had. In 1975, Ursula and her children made the move to Liberty, Texas, where she made her home for fifty-one years.
Oma spent her career in many kitchens, from waitressing, to the kitchens of Autumn Hills Nursing Home and later retiring from Yettie Kersting Hospital where she was the head cook of the hospital kitchen often serving the patients her made from scratch recipes made completely with love. Later she had the pleasure of cooking for the Project on Aging Liberty Senior Center and enjoyed the friendships that she made while there.
Oma was good at many things: cooking, knitting, gardening, card playing, traveling, loving and eating her favorite foods like crawfish and fried pickles, but Oma was the best in teaching how to love like Jesus loves, she didn’t see color or disabilities she seen each person she encountered by their heart and actions and loved everyone.
Ursula is preceded in death by parents, brothers Georg Hampel and Gunter Hampel, first husband and father to her children, Jewel Weimer, late husband B.V. Tyler, and special companion JD Ross.
She is survived by her brother Paul Hampel and wife Marlies, her loving daughter, Monika and husband Dan Justus, her son Stephen Weimer and wife Wendy, grand-daughter Tiffany and husband Trey Thornton. Grand-daughter April Burgett, grandsons Joel Martinez and wife Kristina, and Thomas Weimer. Great-grandchildren, Danika Yuen, Jesse Yuen III, Marlee Thornton, Hunter Burgett, Oaklee Martinez and Kayce Weimer. Also her “favorite niece,” Kathrina Hagen and Special friends Barbara and Steve Higgabotham and Brenda Ogle. The family thanks each of you for your love and support during these last months. Also the family would like to give special thanks to nurse Maria “Rosie” Lopez and CNA Sandra Booth along with Harbor Hospice staff, you’ve all made the process easier being a part of it.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, at the Allison Funeral Service Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 15, 2026, at the Allison Funeral Service Chapel with interment following at Cooke Memorial Cemetery in Liberty.
