Denise Ann Carmody Dowden, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on Aug. 10, 2026, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 67. Born on Nov. 11, 1958, in Vallejo, Calif., Denise lived a life marked by spirited individuality, loving devotion to family, and a steadfast sense of strength and resilience.
Denise was the daughter of Joseph Novosad and Bernice Stavena Novosad, who preceded her in death, along with her brother Joseph Novosad Jr. and her late husband, Jack Carmody. The memories they shared, and the bonds they formed, remain cherished by all who recall their love and warmth. Denise is survived by her devoted daughter, Infinity Carmody Norwood, and her son-in-law, Justin Norwood.
Nothing brought her more pure happiness than discovering she was going to be a mother, and she took immense pride in the woman and mother Infinity has become. Denise’s legacy continues through her three treasured grandchildren, also known as her G – Babies —Kinzlynn, Haizleigh, and Brody Norwood. She poured her heart into being the best NeNe she could be, embracing every moment with her grandchildren.
She is also survived by her siblings: Rebecca Ayres and her husband, Greg; Mark Novosad and his wife, Laura; Melissa Rogers and her husband, John; and Kimberly Grasty and her husband, Stephen, and sister-in-law Debbie Novosad, who all hold her dear in memory. Family was Denise’s anchor, and she filled her role as sister and sister-in-law with warmth, humor, and steadfast loyalty.
Denise’s spirit was truly unique. Known as the “wild child” among her six siblings, she was a spitfire—a woman of tenacious resolve who taught those around her the value of strength. Her energy and independence were the guiding force in both her friendships and her professional life.
Her career began in healthcare, working as a Certified Nursing Assistant while she pursued her nursing certificate. Although she enjoyed healthcare, she found her calling in shipping and receiving. For 27 years, she dedicated herself to Pan American Ind, excelling in shipping, receiving, and purchasing. Her work ethic and diligence left a lasting impression on all who worked alongside her.
Life outside of work brought Denise much joy. She adored horses and delighted in long rides and quiet moments at the stables. The peace she found among flowers in her garden and the serenity of the beach were sources of comfort and happiness. With a deep love of old-time rock and roll and country music, Denise’s favorite color, turquoise, reflected her vibrant personality. She was a former member of the Porter Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary (PFDLA), continuing her commitment to community and service.
As family and friends remember Denise, they recall a woman whose life was fueled by love, laughter, and an unwavering sense of self. Her guidance, her example of resilience, and her exuberant spirit survive in the lives she touched and the stories that will be shared for generations.
A visitation will be held at Neal Funeral Home, 200 S Washington Ave, Cleveland, TX 77327, on Aug. 22, 2026, from 1 to 2 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life beginning at 2 p.m. at the same location.
Denise Ann Dowden’s remarkable presence and loving influence endure. She is deeply missed and will be forever remembered.
