Bluebonnet News sponsoring free community tabletop game day Sept. 5 at Liberty Municipal Library

Unplug the screens, grab a favorite board game, and head to the library next month! Bluebonnet News is proud to sponsor a special trial run of the Community Tabletop Game Day, a free event designed to bring families, friends, and neighbors together for an afternoon of tabletop gaming at the Liberty Municipal Library upstairs meeting room.

The trial event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 5, from 1 to 4 p.m. The event is completely free and open to the public.

Operating on a “Bring Your Own Game” (BYOG) format, attendees are encouraged to bring their favorite games to teach and play with others. To ensure a welcoming, family-friendly environment for all generations, the event features a Family-Friendly Provision: all games played in the meeting room must have a publisher age rating of 12+ or younger.

Whether you are a seasoned gamer or just looking for a fun weekend activity with the kids, there will be something for everyone. Game types will span from beloved classics (Monopoly, Scrabble, Dominoes) and modern family “gateway” games (Ticket to Ride, Carcassonne), to fast-paced card games and introductory, storytelling-based roleplaying games.

“We wanted to create a space where the community could gather face-to-face and just have fun,” said event organizer John McCulloch. “Tabletop games are a fantastic way to build connections, practice problem-solving, and get away from our screens for a few hours. As a father and grandfather, I know how important it is to have free, safe, and engaging activities for families here in the county. We are hoping for a great turnout to show Liberty how valuable a monthly game day can be.”

Because this is a trial event, community attendance is vital. A strong turnout will help secure the library meeting room for a permanent, recurring game day on the first Saturday of every month.
