Janis Renee Dozier Turman, 61, of Dayton, Texas, passed away on Sept. 10, 2026. She was born on Sept. 17, 1964, in Liberty, Texas, to William J. Dozier and Carol Corley.
Janis was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend whose family was truly the center of her world. She was a fantastic mother and wife and found great joy in being a grandmother. Thoughtful, funny, forgiving, and kindhearted, Janis had a way of making everyone feel welcome. She was a good listener who cared deeply for others and often treated strangers as though they were family. Janis had a special place in her heart for children, and children naturally gravitated toward her. She was affectionately known as a “kid magnet” and was loved by children of all ages. Her warm and caring nature made them feel comfortable, welcomed, and loved. More than anything, Janis loved spending time with her family. Her life revolved around the people she loved, and being together with them was where she was happiest. She also enjoyed some of life’s simple pleasures, especially bottled Cokes and Little Debbie snacks. Janis had been a resident of Dayton for the past three years and was formerly a longtime resident of Liberty.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William J. Dozier and Carol Corley; and her niece, Kayle Mitchell.
Janis is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, James Turman; her son, James Lee Turman and wife Rachael; her daughter, Nicole Huiet and husband Chance; her grandchildren, Cole Huiet and Maggie Turman; her sister, Vicki Iler; her nephew, Colton ller, whom she loved and cherished as a son; her niece, Cara ller; and her special cousin, Deanna Berry. She also leaves behind numerous loving cousins, extended family members, and many dear friends who will miss her deeply.
A visitation for Janis will be held from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026, at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 14, 2026, at Liberty Worship Center, with Pastor Shannon Bowdoin officiating. Burial will follow at Guedry Cemetery in Batson.
Janis will be remembered for her loving heart, her sense of humor, her forgiving spirit, and the way she made people feel like family. Above all, she will be remembered for the tremendous love she had for her family and the many lives she touched simply by being herself.
