
James Albert Brandon, lovingly known as “Pooh,” passed away on Sept. 27, 2026, in Cleveland, Texas. He was born on June 28, 1987, in Cleveland, and remained deeply connected to the place he called home throughout his life.
James will be remembered as someone who loved working with his hands and who cherished the people closest to him. His love for family and friends was at the center of who he was, and those who knew him will remember the care he gave, the presence he brought, and the bonds he held dear.
He leaves behind many who will carry his memory with love. James is survived by his mother, Beverly Smith; his stepfather, Bubba Haley; and his beloved son, Robert Brandon. He is also survived by his brothers, Daniel Brandon II and his wife Crystal, Frank Brandon and his wife Nichole, and Danny Brandon; and by his sister, Ericka Sweeten. His memory will also be treasured by his nephews Daniel Brandon III, John Sweeten III, Erick Sweeten, Hudson Brandon, and Raylan Brandon; his nieces Cierra Brandon, Brooke Brandon, Gracie Brandon, Jamie Brandon, and Allisin Brandon; and by his aunts Carolyn Wright and Lynn Riley; along with numerous other loving family members and treasured friends. Each of them was part of the circle of family and friendship that meant so much to him, and they will continue to hold him close in their hearts.
He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Matthew Brandon Sr.; Mawmaw and Pawpaw Smith, Mam and Pap Brandon, Mawmaw and Pawpaw Beard, and his brother-in-law, John Sweeten Sr.. Their memories remained part of his story, and now he is reunited with those who went before him. James also leaves behind his girlfriend, Chyann Reynolds.
Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of James on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2026, for visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. at Neal Funeral Home, 200 South Washington Avenue, Cleveland, Texas 77327. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at Neal Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Oak Shade Cemetery, 1807 County Road 2212, Cleveland, Texas 77327. Officiating James’ service will be Kenneth Pippin and Scott Stowers. Honoring James as pallbearers is Frank Brandon, Danny Brandon, John Sweeten III, Erick Sweeten, Ben Dark, and Travis Lawson.
James Albert Brandon’s life was rooted in love, connection, and the simple, meaningful work of his hands. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved him, and may he be remembered with tenderness always.
