Liberty library plans anime day, fall book sale this month

Anime fans and book lovers will both have something to look forward to this week as Liberty Municipal Library hosts two special events, including a two-day Anime Day celebration and the Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale.

Anime Day will be held Friday and Saturday, Oct. 9-10, in honor of the birthday of Naruto Uzumaki, the title character of the popular Japanese manga and anime series “Naruto.”

Visitors can stop by the library anytime during regular hours on either day to participate in an anime-themed scavenger hunt, win prizes and enjoy activities celebrating popular characters including Naruto, Goku from “Dragon Ball” and Luffy from “One Piece.”

The program is free and open to all ages, including teens and adults.

On Saturday, Oct. 10, bargain hunters can also head upstairs for the Friends of the Liberty Municipal Library Fall Book Sale, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the library’s second floor.

The sale will feature hundreds of new and used books along with magazines, DVDs, audiobooks and music. Shoppers will find everything from science fiction and romance to history and books for children and young adults. A small selection of Spanish and bilingual materials also will be available.

Most items will be priced from 25 cents to $3, while magazines will be available for 5 cents each. The sale also includes a collection of older books on which shoppers may make an offer.

Proceeds from the sale benefit programs and events sponsored by the Friends of the Liberty Municipal Library.

The Friends of the Library is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit volunteer organization that works to encourage community participation in and support for the library. Money raised through memberships, book sales and the organization’s spring “Bakeless” Bake Sale helps fund scavenger hunts, Summer Reading activities, holiday events and other library programs.

Membership in the Friends organization is open to individuals, families, students and organizations interested in supporting the library and its programs.

Liberty Municipal Library is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

For more information about either event, call the library at 936-336-8901 or visit the Liberty Municipal Library on Facebook or Instagram.
