Harvey Eugene “Gene” (or “Geno” to many) Leake, 82, of Liberty, peacefully passed away Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, in Pearland.
Gene was born Dec. 4, 1943, in Liberty to Horace Eugene Leake and Mattie Dora Chapman Leake. He was happily a lifelong resident of Liberty.
Gene graduated from Liberty High School and was an electrician by trade. He attended Line Camp Cowboy Church and was a long-time member of the Elks Lodge. Music was an important part of Gene’s life, and he especially enjoyed playing the guitar and sharing that love of music with others. He treasured time spent with his friends, whether they were hunting, fishing, listening to music, or simply visiting and swapping stories. A proud lifelong resident of Liberty, Gene had a deep affection for his hometown, its people, and its history. He enjoyed recalling the Liberty he knew, sharing local stories, and keeping the community’s memories alive through conversation.
Mr. Leake was preceded in death by his parents and niece, Mindy Swafford.
He is survived by his daughter, Gena Besich and husband John; the most supportive sister, Carole Swafford and best husband Danny; grandchildren, Ryan and Dillon, who he loved immensely; nephew, Bub Swafford and wife Lisa; niece, Sheri Keplinger and husband Bobby; whose contribution to his happiness knows no bounds; and numerous other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends, from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, at Allison Funeral Service. A private interment will follow the visitation at Fairlawn Cemetery.
