A Dayton ISD bus driver has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run collision that seriously injured a Woodrow Wilson Junior High student Friday morning, Oct. 16, according to the Dayton Police Department.
Police identified the driver as Ricky Eugene Cherry, 70, of Dayton.
The collision occurred between 6:15 and 6:30 a.m. near the eastbound intersection of U.S. 90 and Stilson Road. In an earlier statement seeking the public’s help, police said investigators believed a vehicle struck the juvenile and the driver failed to stop and render aid.

Police later announced Cherry’s arrest but did not identify the charge or specify the vehicle involved.
Dayton ISD confirmed that the injured student attends Woodrow Wilson Junior High. The district said the student’s parents had been notified and that it was coordinating with first responders and local law enforcement.
“Our thoughts are with the student and their family during this difficult time. We understand that news of this nature can be difficult for our school community, and our priority remains providing care and support to those affected,” Superintendent Dr. Travis Young said in the district’s statement.
The district said it would not release additional details at this time out of respect for the student and family and to protect their privacy. Counselors are available to assist students and staff who need support.
Anyone who witnessed the collision or has relevant dashcam or security camera footage from eastbound U.S. 90 that morning is asked to contact the Dayton Police Department.

Im just going to say this i don’t believe he knew he hit that boy at all. Why is Dayton letting bus drivers drive at 70 or older . I feel bad that the young man got hurt but at the same-time I feel bad for this 70 year old man as well. Prayers for both
Was he driving the bus when he hit the boy or in his personal vehicle?
