Bidders rallied behind an Anahuac family at the Trinity Valley Exposition Youth Livestock Auction in Liberty on Oct. 23, driving the family’s grand champion market rabbit to $50,000 in support of Jared Bettis, who reportedly is battling brain cancer.

For a few minutes, the bidding was fast and furious. Aubree Bettis stood before the crowd as bid hawkers called out bids and buyers quickly pushed the total higher.

The coordinated effort offered support for Jared Bettis and his wife, whose two daughters, Aubree and Ryleigh, are active in livestock shows.

Aubree, a sixth-grader, shows pigs and rabbits. Ryleigh, an eleventh-grader, shows pigs and chickens and has also participated in home economics projects.

Jared recently underwent surgery. An update shared about the family indicated the surgery went well.

After Aubree’s rabbit brought $50,000, the auction moved on to the next project. Most of those same bidders kept buying, supporting other young exhibitors as they took their turns.

A full story on the TVE youth livestock auction will be posted soon.
