Jose Ines Alonso

Jose Ines Alonso was, first and foremost, an excellent father, wonderful husband, superhero grandfather and a very loving great-grandfather. He was known as Tio Ines to his many nieces and nephews and Don Ines to his abundance of friends. He was born on a small ranch nestled in Mexico’s Sierra Madre mountains called La Hincada, in the state of San Luis Potosí.

At the age of 15, he migrated to the United States and worked as a migrant laborer until he found his craft. He began by picking lettuce and cabbage in the Rio Grand Valley, then moved on to picking strawberries and oranges in California. He endured the cold winters in Oregon where he planted trees (100 per day he would say) and picked hazelnuts. He learned many trades along the way and made many friends. He became a highly skilled fence builder in San Antonio and later one of the best welders at Fluor Daniel in Deer Park, Texas. It seemed there was nothing he didn’t know how to do.

He taught us to work hard and to help not only your family but also others. He showed us how to build strong lasting friendships. Whenever things would get difficult, he would always tell us “no se preocupe, yo le ayudo” “don’t worry, I will help you”. Somehow hearing him say that in his strong, firm voice and seeing his big smile, you knew everything was going to be alright.

We are grateful and blessed to have had our father with us for so many years. His wisdom, life lessons, unique strength and countless stories of his many adventures will be treasured in our hearts forever.

He is survived by his wife Josefina Alonso, his children Maria Maribel and spouse Amado Mijes, Samuel and spouse Rebecca Alonso, Dinora and spouse Donnie Deakle, Yesenia Soriano. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren: Alexandria (spouse Dominic), Nikolas (fiancé Griselda), Libby, Stevie (spouse Jonathan Franco), Michael, Andrew, Joseph and Julian. Great-grandchildren: Lili, Sebastian, Lucas, Nicholas, Isabelle and Olivia. He is also survived by his sister, Vidal A. Castañeda, in Houston, Texas.
