A 22-year-old man was arrested early Monday, Oct. 26, after Liberty County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to reports of gunfire along CR 5503 in the Colony Ridge area south of Cleveland.
At approximately 2:48 a.m., a deputy was dispatched to the area after a resident reported hearing approximately nine gunshots fired along the public roadway near his home. The witness also reported seeing a gray GMC pickup truck leaving the area.
A deputy located a vehicle matching the description nearby and conducted a traffic stop at CR 3556 and CR 3549. The driver was identified as Jesus Salinas Jr., 22.
During the traffic stop, Salinas reportedly acknowledged having a handgun inside the vehicle. Deputies located the firearm and determined it contained three rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber.
Deputies returned to the location where the gunfire was reported and recovered nine spent shell casings that matched the ammunition found in the handgun.
During a search following Salinas’ arrest, deputies also reportedly discovered a small quantity of white powder believed to be cocaine in his possession.
Salinas was transported to the Liberty County Jail without further incident and booked on charges of unlawful carrying of a weapon, a Class A misdemeanor; disorderly conduct involving the discharge or display of a firearm, a Class B misdemeanor; and possession of a controlled substance, Penalty Group 1/1-B, less than 1 gram, a state jail felony.
