A two-vehicle accident Tuesday morning claimed the life of a 5-year-old Splendora girl, according to Sgt. Rob Willoughby with the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The accident took place around 8:06 a.m. where Morgan Cemetery Road (CR 379) meets US 59/69. The child’s mother, 29-year-old Stephanie McNabb, was driving eastbound on CR 379 and had crossed over the southbound lanes of the freeway when the back left portion of her 2004 Cadillac CTS was struck by a southbound Chevy pickup driven by John Roeder, 54, of Livingston.
The impact pushed McNabb’s vehicle into the median of the freeway. Roeder’s truck came to rest on its passenger side.
The 5-year-old child was killed in the collision. A 7-year-old girl, also in the vehicle, was critically injured and was airlifted to Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston. McNabb was transported by ground ambulance to Northeast Memorial Hospital in Humble.
According to Willoughby, Roeder was not seriously injured. He was evaluated at the scene by medics and released.
Trooper Cody Buntion is the investigating trooper for the accident. He was assisted by Willoughby and Troopers William Koen, Chris McCarty and Preston Gustavson.
