A pit bull dog was killed Saturday at a home on CR 3893 East after reportedly attacking a 5-year-old boy.

Authorities say a 5-year-old boy was mauled by the family’s pet dog around 7:43 p.m. Saturday at a home on CR 3893 East off of FM 1725 outside of Cleveland.

“The family’s pit bull dog got off his chain and attacked the 5-year-old boy,” said LCSO Capt. Ken DeFoor.

The boy was seriously injured and taken to Kingwood Regional Medical Center for treatment. His condition is unknown at this time.

“The dog was shot and killed at the scene immediately after attacking the boy,” DeFoor said.

No other information is available at this time to suggest why the dog attacked the boy.
