The artistic talents of Hardin students were on display Tuesday for Hardin Volunteer Fire Department’s annual art contest that coincides with National Fire Safety Month, which is held every year in October.

This year, Hardin VFD expanded the contest, which is usually for children in lower grades, to include the high school. Working with Hardin HS Art Teacher Tina-Marie Bush, fire department personnel narrowed down the winners to Faythe Tamez, first place; Jonathan Ferguson, second place; Randi Davison, third place; and Travis Bennett, Mary Bergen, Emily Cherry, Gillian Brock, Brent Ussery, Savanna Wakefield and Sara Snyder for Honorable Mention.

Tamez received a $200 prize for first with other awards receiving smaller cash prizes. The money for the contest was donated by Los Compadres Restaurant in Hardin, Emergency Services District #7 and anonymous donors.

The artwork of the winning entries will be on display at the Hardin fire station’s community/meeting room.
