Stabbing investigation under way in Liberty

Crime scene tape blocks off an area near a hotel room at Traveler's Inn in Liberty where a stabbing reportedly took place Tuesday morning.

A 51-year-old man reportedly was stabbed in the neck outside of his hotel room at the Traveler’s Inn, formerly known as Scottish Inn and Suites, in the 2500 block of US 90 in Liberty around 5 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6.

According to Lt. Chip Fairchild, the victim was transported to San Elizabeth’s Hospital in Beaumont where he is in critical condition but expected to recover.

When police arrived at the hotel Tuesday morning, the victim reportedly said he was attacked without provocation by another man who was staying at the hotel.

“Investigators are conducting a search warrant on the room where the victim had been staying. They are collecting items from his room for the investigation. It appears there is more to the story than what we were originally told,” Fairchild said.

The men accused of the stabbing is described as a young black male with a light complexion. He allegedly was dressed in black clothing at the time of the stabbing.

As soon as more information is available, Liberty PD will issue a statement to the media, Fairchild said.
