A Liberty County man who was Cub Master for a Liberty Cub Scout troop and served as a volunteer firefighter for Liberty Fire Department is facing a charge of Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child.
Authorities say James Russel Clymer, 35, is accused of repeatedly sexually abusing a juvenile female, the most recent incident as late as Oct. 29.
“The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office responded to an outcry from a juvenile female on Nov. 1 to her mother and school officials who, in turn, contacted the local Children’s Protective Services of an alleged sexual abuse that has been taking place over the last several years,” said Capt. Ken DeFoor, spokesperson for the sheriff’s office.
Since his arrest, Clymer was suspended from the Liberty Fire Department. He also was terminated as Cub Master on Nov. 2.
Tabatha Lawson, who oversees the Boy Scout troop in the Liberty area, is heartbroken about the allegations and is meeting with parents Thursday night to inform them about Clymer’s arrest and to hear their concerns.
“His charges are not related to any of my Cub Scouts,” she said.
The case originally was investigated by Liberty Police Department but transferred to the sheriff’s office when it was discovered that the alleged incidents took place outside the Liberty city limits.
Bond for Clymer is set at $100,000.
