Curtis Griffin Mizell

Curtis Griffin Mizell, age 74 of Cleveland, Texas passed away Saturday, December 15, 2018. He was born June 29, 1944 in San Jacinto County, Texas to parents William Griffin and Hazel Marie Mizell who preceded him in death along with his brothers, Joe Mizell, Royce Mizell and Gene Mizell; sisters, Lillian Rossner, Julietta Robinson, Mary Jane Whitmire and Gracie Stalnaker.

Mr. Mizell was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church from birth to 1983. He then moved his membership to Calvary Baptist Church where he remained until 2008. In 2008 he moved membership to Bear Creek Baptist Church. He was ordained as a Deacon in 1972 and served as a Deacon at all three Churches. Curtis proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. During his tour in Vietnam he was wounded and was awarded two purple hearts. As a result of his injuries, he retired from the Army in 1966 and continued to proudly support his Country and the armed services.

Curtis loved taking long road trips in the mountains with his family, hunting, watching bull riding and working in his woodshop. He was also no stranger to hard labor. He enjoyed operating his heavy equipment, trucks, and even growing vegetables in his garden. Above all he loved his Lord and Savior of whom he served Faithfully as well as spending time with his family. In his later years his greatest pleasure came from spending time with his grandkids, whom he loved with all his heart. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Rest assured that those whom believe in our Savior will see him again!

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Mizell; son, Michael Mizell and wife Melissa; daughters, Cathy Pruett and husband Rusty, and B.J. Mizell; brothers, Doyle Mizell and Stanley Mizell; sisters, LaRuth McCalmont, Kitty Bowen and husband Leon, Betty Marie DeSpain and husband Eddie; grandchildren, Hunter Fitch, Layton Fitch, Braely Fitch, Tanner Mizell, Ainsley Mizell and Cade Mizell; Father and Mother in-law, Bill and Dorothy Griffin; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Pace Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 21, 2018 at Calvary Baptist Church, Cleveland, Texas. Interment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Cleveland, Texas.
