Tarkington teen critically injured in single-vehicle crash

A 19-year-old Tarkington man was critically injured when he was involved in a single-vehicle crash on CR 2212 Friday morning around 6:45 a.m.

According to DPS Trooper Trevor Whatley, the young man was driving alone in his vehicle when he left the roadway and hit a tree. The man suffered grievous injuries.

Authorities attempted to airlift him to a Houston-area trauma center but the weather was not favorable for a helicopter flight, so he was transported by ground ambulance to Conroe Regional Medical Center where he remained in ICU as of 8:30 p.m.

The driver was not wearing his seatbelt at the time, which contributed to his injuries.

“The passenger side of the vehicle had the most damage. The driver’s side was pretty much intact,” Whatley said. “I think he might have walked away from this accident if he had been wearing his seatbelt.”

The driver’s name is not being released at this time.
