East Texas Communities Foundation announced Monday that Thomas Brewer of Jacksonville, Texas, is the 2019 recipient of the Glenn and Vivian Prater Memorial Scholarship.

Mr. Brewer, a student at Jacksonville High School, was recognized for his academic achievements, community service, and most importantly his attainment of the rank of Eagle in Boy Scouts of America.

“Mr. Brewer sets remarkably high standards for himself as proven in his academic success and extracurricular activities that he participates in,” said Donnie Barrier, with Jacksonville ISD.

“Mr. Brewer does an outstanding job for the band program. He always goes above and beyond in everything he does.”

The Glenn and Vivian Prater Memorial Scholarship was established to assist Eagle Scouts in East Texas attending Texas A&M University in College Station. Judge Prater served Liberty County for many years as DPS trooper, postmaster, City of Dayton Judge, and Justice of the Peace.  Most notably, he was a long-time scoutmaster who helped many young men reach their Eagle Scout award.  Vivian Prater supported all of the family’s scouting activities and was an active member of the Aggie Moms.

The Prater Memorial Scholarship will be awarded annually to a deserving Aggie and Eagle Scout from one of the 32 counties East Texas Communities Foundation serves or Liberty County, Texas.  Any qualified scholar should contact Mary Lynn Smith, ETCF Program Officer at mlsmith@etcf.org to apply.

Anyone wishing to contribute to the Glenn and Vivian Prater Memorial Scholarship can make a tax deductible gift at www.etcf.org.
