Update: Driver killed in two-car crash in Liberty identified

Liberty police are investigating a major crash that happened shortly before 9 p.m. in the 3900 block of North Main in the City of Liberty.

“Initial investigation determined that a Ford Fusion four-door passenger car was traveling north on North Main St. The Ford Fusion traveled into the southbound lane striking a Ford dual-wheeled truck head on. The driver of the Fusion was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Pct. #5 Wade Brown,” according to a statement from Lt. Chip Fairchild, spokesperson for the Liberty Police Department.

The driver and two passengers of the pickup truck were transported by air ambulance to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. All were said to be in stable condition.

The driver killed in a sedan has been identified as D’Angelo Jermal Edwin Godfrey, 22, of Beaumont.

“Thanks to Liberty Fire Dept., Liberty EMS, Hardin Fire Dept., Liberty County EMS, and Liberty County Sheriff’s Office who all helped at the scene,” Fairchild said.
