Chambers County boat crash victims identified, driver charged with intoxication manslaughter

A 23-year-old Baytown man, Jacob Vernon Breaux, is facing three counts of intoxication manslaughter following a boat crash that killed three in Chambers County.

Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne said the victims are identified as Laura Kay Grant, 48, of Mont Belvieu, William Robert Bowles, 36, of Baytown, and Zachary Jackson Miles, 29, of Beach City. Grant and Bowles were pronounced dead at the scene by Chambers County Pct. 6 Justice of the Peace Larry Cryer. Miles succumbed to his injuries and died at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston after being airlifted from the scene.

Two more people are hospitalized in critical condition.

According to Hawthorne’s statement released on social media, the wreck involved 11 people – five in the wake/ski boat and six in a bass fishing boat.

Breaux was arrested and jailed on three counts of intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle and two counts of intoxication assault with a vehicle with bonds totaling $200,000. 

A team of experienced Game Wardens led by Dustin Dockery, Daniel Pope and Patricia Vannoy are continuing the investigation at this time assisted by the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office.
