Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office looking for theft suspect from New Caney Walmart

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who reportedly committed a theft from the Walmart store located at 20310 US 59 in New Caney.

The theft was reported to authorities around 1:45 p.m. on July 4. When deputies arrived, they were notified by management that on July 1, 2019, the male suspect (seen in the attached photo) entered the store, walked to the electronics section and selected several items.

The suspect then approached the register with approximately $1,400 in items. The suspect reportedly handed the cashier money and let him count it before picking it back up.

“The suspect acted as if he was recounting the cash and asked the cashier to calculate it on his phone as a distraction. When the employee took his phone out, the suspect folded some of the cash in his hand and pocketed it while the employee was distracted,” according to a statement from MCSO.

The total loss to the store is estimated to be around $690.

“Walmart management advised the suspect has used this same tactic at several Walmarts in the Houston area,” the statement continues.

Anyone with information about the man’s identity is asked to contact the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office at 936-760-5800 and reference case # 19A215508.
