A funeral service for Sherrie Young, 55, of Cleveland, will be held Friday, 12 to 1 p.m., at Montague Church of Christ, 15151 FM 1725 in Cleveland. Young died Sunday, July 21, after a brave battle with cancer.
Young was one of four children of Leo Runnels and the late Bernibelle Runnels of Cleveland. Young worked for many years as the circulation manager for Houston Community Newspapers in the Cleveland Advocate office.
She will be remembered for dedicating her life to caring for children – particularly her two adopted children in the latter part of her life – and spreading her love of Christ to others.
On Jan. 3, 2009, Young married the love of her life, Mark Bush, who devoted himself to her care after her diagnosis.
Young is preceded in death by her mother Bernibelle Runnels and brother Timmy Runnels. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Mark Bush, of Cleveland; father, Leo Runnels of Cleveland; daughters and sons-in-law, Marlana and Kai Bush of Cleveland, Magan and Trey Willis of Moss Hill and Shelby Young of Cleveland; son, Bradley Hodges; sister, Jackie Martinez of Cleveland; brothers, Craig Runnels of Alice, Texas, and Mark McCoy of Rockwall, Texas; grandchildren, Toria Bush, Colin Bush, Aaron Bush, Kinsey Cannon, Treyton Willis and Randall Willis.
A graveside service will immediately follow her funeral service.
