A 37-year-old Henderson, Texas, man, David Scott Holcomb, was arrested Thursday on charges of Aggravated Assault With a Deadly Weapon and Burglary of a Habitation With Intent to Commit a Felony. Holcomb is accused of assaulting a maid working at Executive Inn and Suites in Shepherd, Texas.
According to a statement from Det. Gary Sharpen, spokesperson for the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office, on July 27, 2019, Holcomb surprised the 57-year-old housekeeper as she was cleaning a bathroom. The victim told deputies she was surprised by Holcomb as he walked inside the hotel room. Holcomb allegedly grabbed her from behind, clinching both hands around her neck, and began strangling her as he dragged her from the bathroom.
When she struggled to get away, he allegedly began striking her in the face with his fists and then using the hotel room telephone cord to wrap around her neck. The victim afterward was able to make positive identification of her attacker and an arrest warrant for Holcomb was issued, Sharpen said.
After the attack, she was transported to a local hospital and has since made a full recovery.
Working off a tip around 2 a.m. Thursday, SJC sheriff’s deputies executed an arrest warrant for Holcomb in the 1500 block of S. Byrd St., in Shepherd. Holcomb was arrested without incident and booked in at the San Jacinto County Jail.
According to Sharpen, Holcomb has nine arrests on his criminal record, four involving assaults of family members. A parolee from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Holcomb also has a prior criminal record for drug possession and evading in a motor vehicle.
The investigation is ongoing.
