Double shooting under investigation in Liberty

Officers with Liberty Police Department responded to a report of a double shooting Sunday night around 9 p.m. Two men, suffering apparent gunshot wounds, drove themselves to the Walmart store, 2121 Highway 146 in Liberty, and made an outcry for help, according to Liberty Police Chief Gary Martin.

The shooting allegedly took place elsewhere. An hour after the shooting, investigators were looking for the location and trying to determine the circumstances that led to the incident.

Martin said preliminary information suggests the two men were struck by rat shot pellets, also referred to as snake shot or bird shot. One male suffered injuries to his foot and was taken to Liberty-Dayton Regional Medical Center for treatment. The second man’s injuries appeared to be more severe, so a decision was made to have LifeFlight transport him to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.

The names of the two men are not being disclosed by police at this time. As soon as more information is known, an update will be posted.
