As drought conditions rise, Liberty County judge orders burn ban

Liberty County is now under a burn ban. The order was signed Monday morning by Liberty County Judge Jay Knight.

The burn ban is in effect for the next 60 days or until conditions improve that warrant it being lifted.

This means that burning all outdoor burning is prohibited. The order does not prohibit outdoor activities related to public health and safety that are authorized by the Texas Natural Resources Commission for: firefighter training; public utility, natural gas pipeline, mining or mining operations; planting and harvesting of agriculture crops; or prescribed burns conducted by a prescribed burn manager.

Anyone in violation of the order faces a fine of up to $500.
